說到 different 用法，大部分人都知道 different from，有些人也聽過 different than，但很多人不知道的是，”different with” 在英文裡根本不存在。這個錯誤出現率超高，原因很直接：中文說「跟 A 不一樣」，大腦自動接上 with，然後就錯了。這篇把三種情況一次講清楚，連 different 和 difference 的詞性問題也一起解決。
Different from 的用法
這是三種說法裡面最常用、也最安全的，英式和美式英文都通用，不管什麼情境都可以放心用。
想把 different 用法掌握好，先搞清楚 different from 後面能接什麼。結構很簡單：different from + 名詞（Noun）、代名詞（Pronoun）、或名詞短語（Noun phrase）
為什麼是 “from”？可以這樣想：「不一樣」帶有「區隔、距離」的感覺，from 的核心語意是「出發點、來源」，跟 different 的「分開、有別」很搭。這個搭配在英式和美式英文都是標準選擇。

A: 新辦公室怎麼樣？
B: It’s completely different from our old one. The layout is totally open.
B: 跟我們舊的完全不一樣。格局是全開放式的。

B: Yeah, it’s pretty different from what we were using before.
B: 有，跟我們之前用的差很多。

Different than 的用法
“Different than” 在美式英文裡很常見，是完全被接受的說法。英式英文比較少用，但也不是錯的。很多舊版文法書說 different than「不正確」，其實是過時的觀點，現代美式英文已經完全接受這個說法。
那什麼時候用 different than？重點在後面接的東西。後面接子句（clause）的時候，用 different than 比 different from 更自然，不需要繞圈子重組句子結構。
說到 different than 用法，最常出現的場景是「跟預期、想像、或計畫的不一樣」，因為這類句子後面自然就會接「我以為…」這種子句結構。

A: 最終產品跟你原本計畫的有差嗎？
B: It’s a lot different than I expected. We had to make some compromises.
B: 跟我預期的差很多。我們做了不少妥協。

Different with 根本不是英文
要說 different with 用法之前，先說清楚一件事：“different with” 在英文裡根本不存在，任何情況下都不正確。
這個錯誤出現率超高，幾乎每個台灣學習者都犯過。原因幾乎都一樣：中文說「跟 A 不一樣」、「和 A 不同」，「跟/和」在很多語境翻成 “with”，大腦就自動套進去了。但英文介系詞的邏輯跟中文不一樣，不能靠直接翻譯來選，就像arrive 後面要用 in 還是 at，靠中文邏輯也很容易選錯。
往後只要遇到「跟…不一樣」，直接用 different from，different with 可以直接從腦袋裡刪掉。

正確：This plan is different from the original one.
這個計畫跟原來的不一樣。

她的風格跟我的完全不一樣。

這個版本跟我們上週審查的不一樣。
Different 和 Difference，詞性要分清楚
這是兩個完全不同詞性的字，但混用的情況很常見：
- Different（形容詞）：用來修飾名詞，或接在 be 動詞後面，例如 “it’s different” 或 “a different approach”
- Difference（名詞）：可以當主詞或受詞，前面可以加 a / the，例如 “a big difference” 或 “the difference between A and B”
這兩個的情況跟affect 和 effect 很像，外形接近但詞性完全不同，搞錯詞性就會讓整個句子文法崩掉。多益（TOEIC）的詞性辨認題也很常考這一類，記清楚詞性是基本功。

正確：There is a significant difference between the two proposals.
這兩個提案之間有很大的差異。

正確：Can you explain the difference between these two options?
你可以說明這兩個選項的差別嗎？
(17) The two products look similar, but there’s a big difference in quality.
這兩個產品看起來很像，但品質差很多。

A: 你覺得換新系統會有差嗎？
B: Definitely. It’s very different from our current workflow, but in a good way.
B: 應該會。跟我們現在的流程很不一樣，但是往好的方向。
可以說 “more different” 嗎？
技術上文法沒有問題，different 是多音節形容詞，比較級加 more 是正確的形式。但母語人士幾乎不說 “more different”，因為聽起來有點拗口。要表達「差距更大」，通常換個說法反而更道地。
(19) The two plans are quite different from each other.
這兩個計畫彼此差很多。（比 “more different” 更自然的說法）
(20) These two styles couldn’t be more different.
這兩種風格差得不能再遠了。（道地的強調說法，意思是差異極大）

這份報告的語氣跟我們通常交給客戶的不一樣。建議寄出前先修改一下。
記住一個核心邏輯：後面接名詞或名詞短語用 different from，後面接子句用 different than，然後直接把 different with 從腦袋裡刪掉。Different 是形容詞，difference 是名詞，這一點花一分鐘記一下，多益和職場寫作都能少踩一個坑。
