Such that 中文意思是「如此……以至於」，但很多人寫英文遇到它，都直接當 so that 用，然後整句意思完全跑掉。So that 說的是「目的」，such that 說的是「程度導致的結果」——兩件不同的事，搞混了不只是文法錯誤，整句話要表達的意思也會變。
Such that 用法
Such that 的重點在「程度」——把某件事的嚴重性或強烈性說清楚，然後帶出「導致了什麼結果」。such 表示「如此、到這種程度」，that 帶出後面的結果。
基本句型：主詞 + 動詞 + such that + 結果子句

A: Why was the meeting cancelled?
A: 會議為什麼取消？
B: The storm was such that no one could travel safely.
B: 暴風雨嚴重到沒有人能安全出行。

A: How bad was the noise?
A: 噪音有多嚴重？
B: The noise was such that we had to close all the windows and still couldn’t hear each other.
B: 噪音大到我們把所有窗戶都關上，還是聽不清楚彼此說話。

A: Was the demand really that high?
A: 需求真的有那麼高嗎？
B: The demand was such that the product sold out within minutes of launch.
B: 需求之高以至於產品在上線幾分鐘內就賣完了。
其他常見 Such that 用法
Such that 用法除了基本款，還有幾個常見的句型結構。Such that 用法在學術寫作和正式報告裡特別常出現，日常對話比較少，但讀文章肯定會碰到。
結構 1：The [名詞] was such that…
這是最常見的用法，說明某個事物的程度達到某個結果。

A: 專案怎麼出問題的？
B: The miscommunication was such that the entire team had to restart from scratch.
B: 溝通失誤嚴重到整個團隊必須從頭來過。
結構 2：…in such a way that…
說明「以某種方式進行，以至於導致某個結果」，比第一種稍微口語一點。

A: 你怎麼向客戶解釋複雜的主題？
B: I try to explain things in such a way that even someone with no technical background can understand.
B: 我試著以一種連沒有技術背景的人都能理解的方式說明。
結構 3：Such was [名詞] that…（倒裝）
這個是比較文學性的寫法，日常較少用，但讀文章會碰到，要認識。

語域提醒：Such that 整體語感偏正式，口語對話比較少用，但報告、新聞、學術文章很常見。

B: The improvement was such that even the researchers were surprised by the data.
B: 改善的幅度之大，連研究人員自己都對數據感到驚訝。
So that 用法
So that 說的是「目的」——做這件事是為了達到某個目標。後面通常有情態動詞 can / could / will / would。
句型：主詞 + 動詞 + so that + 目的子句

Such that vs So that 對比
同一個情境，用 such that 和 so that 句子意思完全不同，來看看：

He worked hard so that he could succeed.
他努力到一個程度，結果成功了 → 用 such that（程度/結果）
His effort was such that he eventually succeeded.

噪音大到她根本沒睡著 → 用 such that（程度/結果）
The noise was such that she couldn’t fall asleep at all.

They lowered the price so that more customers would buy it.
損失嚴重到他們不得不關閉分店 → 用 such that（程度/結果）
The losses were such that they had to close the branch.
判斷的方法很簡單：問自己「這句話在說為什麼做？還是說達到什麼程度？」前者用 so that，後者用 such that。這個邏輯跟很多表示因果關係的銜接詞一樣，So、Therefore、Thus 這三個「所以」也有類似的「目的 vs 結果」分別，有興趣可以一起看。
容易混淆的 So…that
還有一個很像的結構：**so + 形容詞/副詞 + that**，意思跟 such that 很接近，但結構不同。
Such that 接的是名詞片語；so…that 接的是形容詞或副詞。

So…that 用法：The pain was so severe that he couldn’t walk.
痛到他走不了路。

Such that 用法：Her confidence was such that everyone trusted her judgment.
So…that 用法：She was so confident that everyone trusted her judgment.
她有足夠的信心，以至於大家都相信她的判斷。

A: 考試真的那麼難嗎？
B: It was so difficult that half the class failed. / The difficulty was such that half the class failed.
B: 難到一半的人都不及格。（兩種說法意思一樣，such that 版本更正式）
常見錯誤
錯誤 1：把 such that 用在表達目的的句子
不正確：I studied hard such that I could pass.
正確：I studied hard so that I could pass.（這是目的，要用 so that）

A: Why did you prepare so thoroughly?
A: 你為什麼準備得這麼徹底？
B: I prepared thoroughly so that I wouldn’t be caught off guard by any questions.
B: 我徹底準備是為了不讓任何問題打我措手不及。（目的 → so that）
錯誤 2：Such that 後面加情態動詞
Such that 說的是已經發生的結果，後面不需要 can / could / will——這些是 so that 後面才有的。
不正確：The damage was such that we could replace the entire system.
正確：The damage was such that we had to replace the entire system.（such that 後面說的是結果，不是可能性）

A: 真的有那麼嚴重嗎？
B: The flooding was such that the entire ground floor was completely underwater.
B: 水患嚴重到整個一樓完全淹水了。（such that 後面直接說結果，不加 could）
錯誤 3：So…that 跟 so that 搞混
不正確：I was so tired so that I fell asleep.
正確：I was so tired that I fell asleep.
（so + 形容詞 + that，不能再加 so that）

A: You look exhausted. What happened?
A: 你看起來超累的，怎麼了？
B: I was so jet-lagged that I fell asleep during the meeting.
B: 我時差嚴重到開會途中睡著了。（so + 形容詞 + that，不是 so that）
記住一個方向就夠了：such that 往後看結果（程度如此之高，以至於……），so that 往前想目的（為了達到……）。这兩個方向是反的，只要問自己「這句在說為什麼做，還是說發生了什麼結果」，答案就清楚了。如果你剛學到 such that 中文的意思，記得把這個「目的 vs 結果」的邏輯一起記下來，以後用起來就不會搞混了。
