“Not exactly” 這個詞，很多人看到的第一反應就是「不完全是」，感覺邏輯清楚。但聽過母語者說 “She’s not exactly a people person” 的話，你會發現那個語氣完全不是在說「她不完全是很會社交的人」。not exactly 意思到底是什麼？這篇把兩種截然不同的用法、職場例句和多益備考重點一次說清楚。
Not exactly 當單獨回應：「沒那麼確切」
當 “not exactly” 單獨出現，或是放在回應的開頭，這個 not exactly 意思的核心是「委婉」，也就是「沒那麼確切」、「不算是」、「不能說完全是」。語氣比直接說 “No” 柔和很多，不是在完全否定，而是在保留空間，讓對話不那麼「死」。
台灣人說「也不是說…」「不算是啦」「也不能這樣說」這種軟化語氣，就是這個感覺。

Not exactly 放在名詞或形容詞前面：語氣反轉，變「完全不是」
這是很多人沒注意到的用法轉變。當 “not exactly” 放在名詞或形容詞前面，意思就不是「沒那麼確切」了，而是「完全不是」、「根本不算是」，而且常常帶著一種輕微反諷的語氣。
前面那個用法是在保留空間；這個是在否定一個特質，語氣更強，有時候還帶點諷刺。

“not exactly” 出現的時候，通常是間接否定的信號，搭配後面的說明，才是真正的答案。
