Touchy 跟 touch 長得這麼像，很自然會以為它跟「觸碰」有關係——但其實 touchy 意思完全不同。這個字在日常對話和職場英文裡都超常出現，而且用錯了，很可能在不知不覺中踩到別人的地雷。
Touchy 是什麼意思？
Touchy 是形容詞，有兩個主要用法：
第一個是形容「人」，意思是「容易敏感、容易不高興、玻璃心」。這種人說話要特別小心，一不小心就踩到地雷。
第二個是形容「話題或情況」，意思是「敏感的、棘手的」。這類話題在英文裡叫做 touchy subject 或 touchy topic，代表這個話題很容易讓人不舒服或引起爭議。

最常見的 touchy topics 包括：薪水（salary）、宗教（religion）、政治（politics）、年齡（age），以及感情或婚姻狀況（relationship/marital status）。

Touchy 跟 Sensitive 差在哪？
這兩個字都有「敏感」的意思，但語感不太一樣，在職場英文裡選錯了會有點微妙。
Sensitive 是比較中性甚至偏正面的字。形容人的時候，可以是「感受細膩、體貼」的意思；形容話題的時候，表示「需要謹慎處理」，但不一定代表會爆炸。
Touchy 就比較偏負面。形容人的時候，暗示這個人容易生氣、不好相處；形容話題的時候，帶有「一碰就炸」的感覺。
TOEIC 多益閱讀測驗的職場信件和備忘錄中，sensitive 出現的頻率比 touchy 高，因為它語氣比較正式中立。Touchy 則更口語，在對話和非正式信件裡比較常見。

順便把這對常被搞混的字釐清一下。Touchy 和 touching 都跟 touch 有關係，但意思是天差地遠。

Touching = 感人的、令人動容的（形容讓你內心有感觸的事）
