“Where were we?”
通常搭配 “Sorry about the interruption” 或 “Sorry about that” 一起說,最自然。
(1)
A: Sorry, I had to take that call. Where were we?
B: You were just about to tell me about the new project timeline.
(2)
A: The fire alarm went off, but we’re back now. Where were we?
B: We were reviewing the Q3 numbers.
(3)
A: Sorry about that interruption. Where were we?
B: We were discussing whether to launch in Q1 or Q2.
(4)
A: Ok, I think everyone’s back from the break. Where were we?
B: We were talking about the budget for next year.
(5) “Alright, we got a bit sidetracked. Where were we?”
You were saying?
這句跟 “Where were we?”
“You were saying?” Sorry, you were saying?” 或 “Please, you were saying?”
(6)
A: I was thinking maybe we should—
B: Sorry about that. You were saying?
A: I was saying we should push the deadline back by a week.
(7)
A: So the reason I wanted to meet today was—
B: Come in! Sorry about that. You were saying?
A: I wanted to talk about the client feedback we got last week.
(8)
A: You were saying earlier that you had some concerns about the plan?
B: Right, I think the timeline is too tight.
(9)
A: Sorry, I didn’t mean to cut you off. You were saying?
B: No worries. I was saying we need more people on this.
Let’s get back to…
Let’s get back to + 名詞 / 主題
可以說 “Let’s get back to the main topic”、”Let’s get back to what we were discussing”,或更具體的主題。開會時如果有準備會議議程,直接說 “Let’s get back to the agenda” 也很實用。
(10)
A: Ok, I think we’re getting a bit off track. Let’s get back to the main topic.
B: Sure. We were talking about the marketing plan.
(11)
A: Let’s get back to what we were discussing before the break.
B: Right, we were going over the client’s requirements.
(12)
A: That’s an interesting point, but let’s get back to the budget for now.
B: Of course. So the total is around 500K.
(13)
A: Sorry to interrupt, but can we get back to the original question?
B: Sure, go ahead.
(14)
A: Ok, we’ve covered a lot. Let’s get back to the agenda and see what’s next.
B: We still have two more items to go through.
Let’s pick up where we left off
“Pick up” 在這裡是「接續、繼續」的意思,”where we left off” 是「我們停下來的地方」。
(15)
A: Good morning, everyone. Let’s pick up where we left off yesterday.
B: We were going through the project roadmap.
(16) Email
“Hi Mark, let’s pick up where we left off. You mentioned that the delivery date might need to change?”
(17)
A: Sorry, my phone died. Let’s pick up where we left off.
B: No problem. We were talking about the venue for the event.
(18)
A: We ran out of time last week, but let’s pick up where we left off.
B: Sure. We still need to finalize the design.
Circle back
這跟 “get back to” 有個細微差別:
- Let’s get back to…
- Let’s circle back to…
(19)
A: That’s a good question, but let’s circle back to it after we go through the numbers.
B: Sure, I’ll make a note of it.
(20)
A: I don’t have all the information right now. Can we circle back to this tomorrow?
B: Of course. I’ll send you what I have in the meantime.
(21)
A: We’re running low on time. Let’s circle back to item 3 at the next meeting.
B: Ok, I’ll add it to next week’s agenda.
(22) Email:
“I’ll circle back to you once I have more details from the team.”
