開會到一半，外國同事看著你說 “By all means, feel free to share your thoughts.” 你心裡想：這到底是「請便」還是什麼意思？by all means 中文其實就是「當然可以」，但很多人第一次看到這個片語，直覺翻成「用盡方法」，幾乎每次都翻錯。更麻煩的是，旁邊還有一個長得幾乎一模一樣的 by no means，只差一個字，意思卻完全相反。這篇把這兩個都說清楚。
By all means 的意思和用法
by all means 中文意思有兩種，要看語境來判斷。
第一種是「當然可以」，也就是允許或同意的意思。語氣比 “sure” 或 “okay” 更有分量，帶有「非常歡迎」的感覺，常出現在職場對話裡，語感大方又正式。

A: Is it alright if I take Friday off?
A: 我星期五請假可以嗎？
B: By all means. You haven’t taken a day off in weeks.
B: 當然可以。你好幾個星期沒休假了。

A: Can I borrow your charger for a bit?
A: 我可以借一下你的充電器嗎？
B: By all means! It’s on my desk.
B: 當然沒問題！在我桌上。

A: Mind if I join your group for the project?
A: 我可以加入你們組做這個專案嗎？
B: By all means, we’d love to have you.
B: 當然可以，很歡迎你加入。
這種輕鬆大方的語氣，和 knock yourself out 有點相似，只是 by all means 更正式一點，職場對話或書面英文裡都適合用。
第二種是「務必」或「一定要」，帶有鼓勵對方的語氣，等於在說「你真的應該這樣做」。

A: 交出去之前我應該再確認一次數字嗎？
B: By all means. Accuracy matters a lot for this report.
B: 務必要。這份報告的數字準確度很重要。

B: By all means! That’s actually the best way to understand what they need.
B: 一定要！那其實是了解他們需求最好的方式。

By no means 的意思和用法
by no means 中文意思是「絕對不」、「一點也不」，語氣比單純說 “not” 強很多，帶有「完全否定、根本不是這樣」的感覺。
By no means 可以放句首，也可以放句中，語感稍微不同：
- 放句首，語氣更強，帶點反駁感：By no means am I saying this is your fault.（我絕對不是在說這是你的錯。）
- 放句中，語氣平和一點：This is by no means a simple task.（這絕對不是一件簡單的事。）

A: So the budget is basically settled, right?
A: 所以預算基本上確定了，對吧？
B: By no means. We’re still waiting for approval from the finance team.
B: 完全還沒有。我們還在等財務部門的批准。

這絕對不是在批評，我只是想更了解這個流程。
如果你想在職場上表達不同意，但不想顯得太直接，這些高情商的表達方式也很值得學。
兩個放一起，差這一個字差很大
簡單來說，by all means 中文是「當然可以」，by no means 中文是「絕對不」，差的就是那一個字。
最容易搞混的情境，是有人問你 “Can I…?” 的時候：

A: 我今天下午可以用會議室嗎？
B1: By all means! I’ll book it for you right away.
B1: 當然可以！我馬上幫你訂。
B2: By no means, there’s a client meeting in there all day.
B2: 完全不行，那裡今天全天都有客戶會議。

A: Is this task simple enough for a new hire to handle alone?
A: 這個任務夠簡單，新員工可以自己處理嗎？
B: By no means. It requires at least a year of experience.
B: 絕對不行。這需要至少一年的工作經驗。

A: Do you think it’s okay to push the deadline by a week?
A: 你覺得截止日期延後一個星期可以嗎？
B: By all means, if the extra time means better quality. That’s what matters most.
B: 當然可以，如果多一點時間能讓品質更好的話。那才是最重要的。
多益和職場怎麼考、怎麼用
這兩個片語在多益（TOEIC）裡都有出現，但位置不同。
By all means 主要在 Listening Part 3 的辦公室情境對話，通常是某人提出請求，另一人用 by all means 表示同意。考點在於你能不能快速聽出「by all means = 當然可以」，而不是停下來想字面的意思。
By no means 在 Reading Part 6 和 Part 7 比較常見，出現在商業信件或正式報告裡，用來強調立場或澄清誤解。有時候也會以倒裝句的形式出現，例如 “By no means should we…”（我們絕對不應該…），這個結構在口語裡少用，但書面英文和多益裡偶爾會考，值得認識一下。

A: 我把這封信轉給其他部門可以嗎？
B: By all means. The more people who know about this, the better.

(17) This delay was by no means caused by a lack of effort on our team’s part.
這個延誤絕對不是我方團隊努力不足造成的。（多益 Reading Part 7 商業信件常見用法）
(18) If you have any questions about the proposal, by all means reach out to us directly.
如有任何關於提案的疑問，務必直接與我們聯絡。（職場 email 常見結尾句）
(19) By no means should the team proceed without written approval from management.
在沒有管理層書面批准的情況下，團隊絕對不應該繼續進行。（職場公告用法，也是多益倒裝句型考點）

說不出口的時候，這些替代說法也很自然
By all means 可以用以下說法替換，語氣稍微輕鬆一點：
- Of course / Certainly（當然）
- Go ahead（請便、繼續）
- Feel free（請自便）
- Sure, no problem（沒問題）
By no means 的替代說法：
- Not at all（一點也不）
- Absolutely not（絕對不）
- Far from it（差得遠了，語氣更強）
- In no way（絕對不）
其中 “Far from it” 語感最接近 by no means，都帶有「你說的跟實際差很多」的意思，是很好的替代。

B: Of course, go ahead. / By all means.
B: 當然，請便。（兩種說法都很自然）

B: Far from it. / By no means.

記住一個原則就好：all 和 no 就是關鍵。By all means，all 代表全部支持，就是「當然可以」；by no means，no 代表完全否定，就是「絕對不」。用習慣之後，你會發現這兩個說起來比 “sure” 或 “no way” 更有份量，不管是在職場對話還是書面英文裡都很好用。
